This is a major factor affecting print quality.

The larger the height:

  • the faster it prints but
  • the more aliased the end product, especially at flatter regions of the model

Bambu printers can print as fine as 0.08mm1 and as thick as 0.28mm. The larger end of the spectrum can be helpful in validating the design.

First layer height

The height of the first layer is configurable separately. The first layer’s height is the foundation to ensure proper bed adhesion.

Bambu Studio-specific settings

Variable-layer height is possible with this software. This allows once to have fast prints and only slow down for finer quality where it matters.

The software has a feature that automatically detects which layers can be finer or coarser than others. Example below:

In this example, white layers represent the preset layer height. Meanwhile, green and orange layers are respectively thinner and thicker relative to the preset layer height.

Tip

Use the “Smooth” button for a better print quality when using variable layer heights. This smoothens out the rate of change of the layer height between layers, making the difference less noticeable.

You can also press the button multiple times to smoothen the layers incrementally.
